For quite some time, One Croydon, which opened in 1970, held the position as one of Croydon’s high rise iconic buildings. As expected of busy buildings of this size, all six of the lifts had been modernised several times during their life. One of the past modernisations, in 1996, utilised KONE TMS 9000 controllers incorporating DCSCR drives. However, over time, the 3.5m/s lift speeds had reduced along with reliability and formed a key reason for the decision to modernise again. Titan Elevators was approached with a request to provide a modernisation solution that would assist with the requirement to lower the energy consumption across all six lifts.
After discussions with our client’s lift consultant and Lester Controls, the decision was made to replace the existing lift controllers with Lester Controls’ Almega II Quattro DC controllers programmed for group dispatching. A key factor in the decision-making process was the benefits of energy consumption. The controllers offer energy savings of up to 25% over the existing DCSCR drives utilised in the existing controllers.
Additionally, and as part of the modernisation, Titan Elevators also installed new shaft equipment, including absolute shaft positioning systems to help improve elevator car travel.
